Tips on Finding Cosplay Prop Making Material in Qatar

So you want to make some props for your next costume. You have looked up online tutorials and whenever they mention the materials they probably say this: “you can find blank at your local Walmart.” Well we don’t have Walmart in Qatar! That is where this post comes in. I will be giving you tips on where to find different materials for your cosplaying pleasure.

Let’s start with the basics, armor made from craft foam. Ibn Al Qayyim has you covered when  it comes to craft foam sheets in many thicknesses. For small basic armor pieces you might get the thinner types while the thicker ones are good for big pieces.

Left to right: 8 mm, 4 mm and 2 mm thick craft foam

They also sell Xacto knifes with replacement blades for foam cutting. As well as self-healing cutting mats, which are a good investment in the long run.

Next you will need a method to attach your different pieces together. For this you have two good options, a hot glue gun (con: it will leave very obvious seams on your armor piece) or contact cement (con- not very easy to find). You can find a hot glue gun everywhere in Qatar, from Carfoure to Ibn Al Qayyim to Jarir. I will have another post later with tips on using a hot glue gun to make a staff out of craft foam. For the contact cement, which is a type of glue not concrete :P, you might be able to find it at Ace hardware store in Doha Festival City once it opens up, I also once found it at Megamart.

Then you will want to reinforce your armor so that it holds its shape and stays durable. For that you will need Modge Podge as well as muslin fabric. Modge Podge can always be found in Jarir, I would recommend the mat variety for this step as well as for sealing your foam, while the gloss type is best for the finishing layer after painting. As for the muslin fabric, there are many fabric stores in Souq Al-Jabor next to Souq Waqif.

Contact cements are commonly found in hardware stores. Because these are used in furniture fixing and plumbing. When it comes to using it in foams I would suggest you use it in 8mm ones. The thickness on the 8mm is the base or the foundation when it comes to armor or pauldron crafting. And you really need a strong glue to keep them intact.

In Armor Reinforcements, it’s not necessary to buy a Modge Podge. Not unless you really want to use it.. The substitute on that will be 1 part of PVC glue and one part of water. Mix it very well and brush it with 2 -3 layers of it in your craft. Same texture with the modge podge 🙂

Its like you learn my mind! You seem to understand so much approximately
this, like you wrote the book in it or something.
I think that you just could do with a few % to power the message home a bit, but instead of that,
that is fantastic blog. A fantastic read. I will definitely be back.

Have you ever thought about writing an e-book or guest authoring
on other sites? I have a blog centered on the same ideas you discuss and would really like to have you share some stories/information.
I know my visitors would appreciate your work.
If you’re even remotely interested, feel free to shoot me an e-mail.

First of all I would like to say great blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your thoughts before writing.
I have had trouble clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out.
I truly do take pleasure in writing but it just
seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are lost simply
just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations
    or tips? Appreciate it!

I’ve been surfing online more than 4 hours today, yet I
never found any interesting article like yours.
It is pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if aall site owners
and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be a lot more useful than ever before.

Good response in return of this issue with firm arguments and describing the whole thing concerning that.
