IACQ Geek Movies for 2018


APRIL. This 2018 is moving really fast and without us noticing, it’s already the second quarter of the year! When 2018 entered, we felt like we have a whole year for ourselves but still time flies. But hey there is still more to 2018 that we can all still look forward to, especially for movie geeks and enthusiasts like ourselves!

So here in IACQ, we compiled all the movies for you that will get you all geared up for your next movie adventure!

Please note that some movies have no definite date of release in Qatar, they may or may not be aired in the country.



5th –  I Kill Giants

Genre: Fantasy, Thriller, Drama
Running Time: 1hr 46 minutes
Director: Anders Walter
Casts:  Madison Wolfe, Zoe Saldana, Imogen Poots

From the same creators of Harry Potter comes a movie about a peculiar girl named, Barbara, whose side occupation other than being a student is to kill giants that threatens their area… or so what she pertains it to be. With a twist of drama, fantasy and coming-of-age themed, I Kill Giants is an intriguing movie you should really note down in your watch list.


12th – Rampage 

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
Running Time: 1hr 47 minutes
Director: Brad Peyton
Casts: Dwayne Johnson, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman

After the success of Jumanji, Dwayne Johnson enters the scene as Davis Okoye who befriended a extraordinarily intelligent albino gorilla, George, who was once under his care since its birth. Due to some rouge experiment conducted to George, this gentle animal turned into a monster raging across the city. Okoye fights his way to stop the city from getting destroyed completely, and save his old time buddy.


26th – Avengers: Infinity War

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy
Running Time: 2hrs 36 minutes
Director: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo
Casts: Karen Gillan, Elizabeth Olsen, Josh Brolin

Probably the most anticipated movie of the year! Marvel attempts to do the ultimate crossover in the Marvel Universe into one movie, with all the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy along with almost every Marvel superhero you could think of in one film! Wow That’s a lot! Our superheroes team up to save the entire universe from the evil plans of Thanos, preventing him into collecting all Infinity Stones.




17th – Deadpool 2

Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy
Director: David Leitch
Casts: Morena Baccarin, Josh Brolin, Bill Skarsgård

The sequel of everyone’s beloved anti-hero! Wade come backs to become the best bartender he can ever be. While fulfilling his dreams, he battles his way to defeat his foes in this action-filled movie that is not for everyone… but it might be for you. If you know what we mean.


24th – Solo: Star Wars Story

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy
Director: Ron Howard
Casts: Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Alden Ehrenreich

A Star Wars spin-off that everyone is looking forward to! Alden Ehrenreich will be out there solo into the galaxy far, far away~!




21st – Jurassic World 2 

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi 
Director: J.A. Bayona
Casts:  Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, Jeff Goldblum

 Bringing back Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, Jurassic World comes with it’s second installment in the theaters this June!


28th – The Incredibles 2 

Genre: Animation, Action, Adventure 
Director: Brad Bird
Casts: Samuel L. Jackson, Holly Hunter, Sophia Bush

After 14 years, finally a long-awaited sequel of our favorite superhero family from our childhood!



4th – The First Purge 

Genre: Action, Horror, Sci-Fi 
Director: Gerard McMurray
Casts: Marisa Tomei, Lex Scott Davis, Luna Lauren Velez

The fourth installment of James DeMonaco’s dystopian-horror hit will take place before the previous movies. This prequel will tell a tale of how the very first purge started.


5th –  Ant-Man And The Wasp 

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
Director: Peyton Reed
Casts:  Hannah John-Kamen, Evangeline Lilly, Walton Goggins

Scott Lang tries to balance his family and his superhero life with his new mission as Antman partnered with Wasp (Hope Pym).


26th – Teen Titans Go! To The Movies

Genre: Animation, Action, Comedy
Director:  Aaron Horvath, Peter Rida Michail
Casts:  Nicolas Cage, Kristen Bell, Tara Strong

Our ever happy-go-lucky, funny cartoon heroes finds out that every other DC superhero has their own movie! They search for a way to debut in the big screen while they battle their long-time foes that gets in their way.




23rd – Slender Man

Genre: Horror
Director: Sylvain White
Casts: Joey King, Annalise Basso, Javier Botet

Based on a popular horror video game with the same name, comes a movie of a horrifying tale of a creepy, tall, faceless, suit-wearing figure hunting children and teenagers around the town.



14th – The Predator 

Genre: Action, Adventure, Horror
Director: Shane Black
Casts:  Yvonne Strahovski, Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn

Not much details are released regarding the movie but indeed, Shane Black, “We did not see it coming”! Who would have thought that this hit 80’s film would have a sequel? Did you? We sure did not yet we are still digging it.



4th – Venom 

Genre: Action, Horror, Sci-Fi 
Director: Ruben Fleischer
Casts:  Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate

Infamous archenemy of our favorite friendly neighborhood finally coming soon in our big screens! The trailer did not show the suit at all (which is the part we are all looking forward to) but does not matter, we remain totally excited and hyped up for this treat.



15th – Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Genre: Adventure, Family, Fantasy
Director: David Yates
Casts:  Johnny Depp, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller

From the writer of the all-time favorite childhood series Harry Potter and multi-talented Johnny Depp, comes a highly-anticipated sequel full of magic and adventure!


22nd – The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

Genre: Adventure, Family, Fantasy
Director: Lasse Hallström
Casts: Keira Knightley, Morgan Freeman, Mackenzie Foy

Disney dropped a teaser trailer with extravagant and awfully beautiful scenes. The story feels like an Alice in Wonderland story with probably some twist? We’ll found out soon.



14th – Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 

Genre: Animation, Action, Sci-Fi 
Director:  Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey
Casts: Mahershala Ali, Liev Schreiber, Brian Tyree Henry

Spiderman in animation? Who doesn’t want that? We want it. It’s a great treat after the upcoming Infinity War and Venom Movie, that surely all Spidey fans out there would love to watch next.


20th –  Bumblebee (December 20th)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi 
Director: Travis Knight
Casts: Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Pamela Adlon

One of the most-awaited spin-off of Transformers this year! Set in the year 1987, Bumblebee befriends a teenage girl, Charlie, in a small town.


25th – Mary Poppins Returns 

Genre: Family, Fantasy, Musical 
Director: Rob Marshall
Casts: Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep, Ben Whishaw

One of the most beloved films in Disney’s History will finally have a sequel this 2018! It might not be Julie Andrews any more but instead we get a lovely casting of Emily Blunt for the role!


26th –  Alita: Battle Angel (December 26th)

Genre: Action, Adventure, Romance
Director: Robert Rodriguez
Casts: Jennifer Connelly, Rosa Salazar, Eiza González

The story is about Rosa Salazar is reborn as a cyborg with no memories of herself. She then tries to adapt with her new life as Alita and discovers more about her past and her newfound abilities.


26th – Aquaman

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi 
Director: James Wan
Casts: Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman

DC’s probably only superhero movie for the year, if we are not counting Teen Titans. Join an action-filled underwater adventure with the Atlantis King as he steps up with his role and save his people.
